Today is a public holiday in Australia and New Zealand, Anzac Day (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps). A day to remember the sacrifice of all soldiers from the two countries who have died in the First World World, and to acknowledge the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.
As Kiwi (New Zealander) living in Australia, I feel Anzac Day is a national holiday I can affiliate with. Back in New Zealand, we would wear a cloth red poppy pin as a mark of remembrance. The poppies is a symbol of sacrifice - the blood lost - in war. "The connection between red poppies and fallen service personnel has its origins in the Napoleonic Wars of the early nineteenth century; red or Flanders poppies were the first flowers to bloom over the graves of soldiers in northern France and Belgium".

Mani details:
I tried to capture the gloomy-Saving-Private-Rayan feel by using:
Background: L'Oreal Color Riche Metropolitan and sponged Ozotic multichromes 730 and 505 on top
Poppies: butter London Pillar Box Red and Union Jack Black
Now, on the light side, time to have some Anzac biscuits! xx Ann
Gorgeous manicure, but appropriately subdued colours. I wish I'd thought of doing an ANZAC day manicure. Next year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bethany. Look forward to your ANZAC day mani next year ;)
